BICYCLE FOR TOURISTS & SPORTIVE ELDERLY — This image shows the final bicycle model I designed for tourists and sportive elderly, which like to cycle in high mountains (1500-3000m), though lack the muscle power that well trained (young) cyclists have. The brand name is “CECINA” and the model name is “LANNA Ride” (short: LANNA); it is the CECINA model for the year 2015. MOUNTAIN VERSION — The “LANNA Ride” is a 20-Speed Chain Drive bicycle, in mountain version. The frame is a hand-made hard tail frame of titanium, and its geometry is adapted from that of a Cyclocross frame. The front Fork is a rigid carbon fork and the bicycle wheels have a rim size of 700c/622, and tires of the size 28 x 1.4 / 37-622. The frame color is darkish grey due to the sand blasting finish. The frame size is Medium, with a Seat Tube of 51 cm, and the weight of the complete bicycle is around 9kg. FRAME — (1) The Top Tube of 555mm (Cyclocross geometry) is extended into 580mm (LANNA Ride) to have a less tensioned/ folded sitting position. At the same time, the Top Tube is not made too long (600mm), to avoid stretching out the rider too much. (2) The Head Tube of 140mm (Cyclocross geometry) measures 150mm (LANNA Ride), to have a more upright position. (3) The Seat Tube of 530mm (Cyclocross geometry) is changed into 510mm (LANNA Ride) to make the handling and the getting on and off the bicycle a bit easier. (4) The Seat Tube Angle of 73-degrees (Cyclocross geometry) is changed into 73.5-degrees (LANNA Ride), to position the rider a bit more above the Bottom Bracket – in particular when using a seat post with an inline saddle clamp – what makes it easier to keep cadence when cycling uphill. (5) The Head Tube Angle of 73-degrees (Cyclocross geometry) is changed into 71 degrees (LANNA Ride), to make the steering less nervous; cycling feels more stable. (6) The Chain Stay of 425mm (Cyclocross geometry) is changed into 430mm (LANNA Ride), to accommodate ‘fat’ tires. One and the other results in a wheelbase of around 106cm. HANDLE BARS — The “LANNA Ride” has a bullhorn handlebar with a Spinaci (clip-on) tri-bar to be able to stretch out the rider’s position during climbing. Conquering a real steep part of the hill can result in falling backwards, when the rider cycles in a too high up position. DRIVE TRAIN — The bicycle a Chain Drive Train. Bottom Bracket 68mm and Bottom Bracket drop 55mm. Crank Set: 10-Speed Double Chain set Hollowtech II, with crank arms of 165mm length (less power needed to keep cadence). The high BB and the short Crank arms allow for continues pedal circling in sharp and steep S-turns. The size of the chain rings are 38/24-T. The smallest front chain ring is a real ‘granny’: 24-T, to accommodate the untrained, and the elderly. The Drive Wheel has a MTB rear hub installed, with a Cassette with 10 sprockets: MTB Cassette 36-11-T. The rear derailleur is a long arm derailleur. The biggest rear sprocket also is a ‘granny’: 36-T, to accommodate the untrained, and the elderly. LUGGAGE — The bicycle is not designed to carry luggage, or to pull a bicycle trailer.
