New dropout options

Just thought I'd post a preview of some of the new rear dropout options that will be included in BikeCAD version 12. BikeCAD has for a long time allowed for the modeling of a wide variety of dropout styles and has allowed for the precise definition of critical dimensions such as the connection points for the rear end of the seat stays and chain stays as well as the location of the derailleur mount and rack and fender eyelets. However, without the option to draw each and every contour of the dropout, it has thus far been impossible to fully capture the aesthetic qualities of any particular dropout. I am currently working to bring in complete drawings of actual dropouts from Paragon and hopefully other manufacturers as well.

In BikeCAD version 12, you will still be able to model dropouts through parametric controls as you do now, but you will also have the option to pick from a menu of a dropout drawings, some of which are shown below.

If you have a dropout design you'd like included among these options, please send me a copy of the design in DXF format.

Festka Track dropout

Here's another one from Festka.

Syntace X-12

Here's another dropout for BikeCAD version 12. This one by Loco Machine for the Syntace X-12 standard.

More dropouts from LOCO Machine

Here are a couple more by LOCO Machine:

R56 3D Horizontal

1.5" Hooded Horizontal

Festka Road dropout

Another dropout from Festka ready to go for BikeCAD version 12.

Rockers?

Hey Brent,

The new dropout choices are just awesome, thanks for doing these!
Is there a plan for Rocker dropouts as well? I wanted to make sure i hadn't missed them if they're in a new version of the software.

Thanks!

Rocker dropouts

Yes, the next update of BikeCAD will include Rocker dropouts. Below are the Paragon DS0030 dropouts with DR4014 and DR4016 inserts.

I'm sorry this update is taking longer to prepare than I'd hoped. I'm currently working on the option to model cable guides and once that's done, the new version will be ready for download.

YES YES YES! Thank You, Brent.

YES YES YES! Thank you, Brent. This and more. Might I also request Breezer do's?

I have found dropout modeling to be perhaps the most tedious and error-prone aspect (for me at least) in using BikeCAD (as wonderful as it is). I often fabricate my own drop-outs, and developed simple, workable proxys for thes in BC. However, I increasingly use OTS droputs, and although i feel like i have developed SOME facility with this, theres usually enugh error in the modeling that I cant expect to go straight from BC to fabrication. Not to mention the time spent modeling.

Many thanks as always, John Fabel, Sylvan Cycles / BikeLife

More dropout options

Thanks for the kind words John. I'm always happy to add more dropouts to BikeCAD. I'd just need a copy of the design in DXF format or some other vector based format. When you speak of Breezer dropouts, do you mean dropouts actually made by Breezer, or just a Breezer style dropout also frequently referred to as a Wright style dropout? There are already several of these in BikeCAD. Examples include the LOCO Machine 1.375" Hooded Vertical, the LOCO Machine 1.5" Hooded Vertical, Paragon DR0001, Paragon DR0004 (DR2001), Paragon DR0022 (DR1022, DR2022) etc.
