How to connect Seatstays to Toptube sides

BikeCAD Pro How To Forum

Hello guys, how are you doing?

Today i want to ask how to connect the seatstays to the top tube sides, just so both get attached in a similar way to the commencal meta ht v2 (https://www.commencal.com/us/en/commencal-meta-ht-am-ohlins-ash-grey/22METAHTAMOH.html?lang=en_US).

I tried to mount the seat stays to the top tube using the seat stays popup, but look like they only get attached to the downside of the toptube, instead of the sides (drive and non-drive).

Thanks in advance guys!

Seatstay attachment point

The key to moving the seatstay ends to the side of the top tube is to adjust the Z value in the seatstays dialog box. If Z is set to 0, the seatstays will attach to the very bottom of the top tube. If you raise Z to be equal to the radius of the top tube, the center line of the seatstay will attach to the side of the top tube. Admittedly, BikeCAD doesn't always do the best job of rendering the front edge of the seat stays, as you can see below, but rest assured dimensions attached to the end of the seatstay should still be accurate. The animation below shows the stays alternating between the bottom of the top tube and the side of the top tube.

Z parameter not working as expected

Hello Brent, i tried what you said, but is does not work quite well. I think the reason is that in my design, the seat stays and the top tube are slightly pointing downward, to the BB

Attaching stays to top tube

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. For each tube that you can attach the seatstays to, BikeCAD assumes it is going to be attached to a particular side. If it's the seat tube, head tube, or down tube, BikeCAD will assume that it is being attached to the back side of the tube, but will wrap around to the side of the tube as dimension Z is increased. If it is the top tube, it assumes it will be the underside, but will wrap around to the side as Z is increased. Your model is an example of a case where that is not always what we want. In your case, we actually want to attach the stays to the top side but wrap around to the side as Z is increased.

I will have to address this in a future update.
