Tubing Library

BikeCAD Feature Request

I'd really like the ability to save tubes for use in other frames - this would be useful for the stranger shaped main tubes, but really really useful for stays.

I've written up some of my ideas about it: https://docs.google.com/document/d/17hVAD_Uz9grVpcRsr3_VgWFW29UVdVH8RwiwTpPplv0/

The basic idea is that I could define the geometry of a tube, give it a name (I'd use the part number I get from Framebuilder Supply), then I could re-use that tube in future builds.

Horizontal Component of Front Wheel Trail

BikeCAD Feature Request

BikeCAD has "Front Wheel Trail" and "Wheel Flop" as a standard frame measurements. As I interpret the BikeCAD drawings, Front Wheel Trail is the perpendicular distance between the steering axis and where the wheel intersects the ground (sometimes referred to as mechanical trail) and Wheel Flop seems to be the vertical component of Front Wheel Trail. Both these measurements is of great use to me but I fail to find the horizontal component of Front Wheel Trail among the standard measurements.

BikeCAD Feature Request

Slowly, I've been learning how BikeCAD (and bicycle design) works, and who the suppliers are. Turns out, there's a number of dropouts avalible from Allotec but not the one I purchased from Frame Builder Supply, the Allotec C24-2.

(Figuring out this was an Allotec dropout was a mess!)

Ad-Hoc Mitre Templates

BikeCAD Feature Request

Occassionaly I need to perform a complex mitre thats out of the norm. I may not have the correct hole cutter size, or perhaps it'd require a good bit of jig work for the mill, etc. Wondering if a ad-hoc mitre tool could be added?

An example might be a e-stay bike (aka alpinestars from 91-93) where the stays meet the downtube, these mitres are complex. 1" tube meets 1.25" tube at various axis. A paper template of such would save a fair bit of aggro.

Line spacing of notes

BikeCAD Feature Request

Hi there, I use a lot of notes in my designs. When using multiple lines in one note there is overlap between the lower line and upper line of text. Changing the text size doesn;t remedy this. I don't know if it's possible to change this in a setting somewhere, I can't seem to find anything. Very grateful for any advice.

BikeCAD Feature Request

Hi Brent,
Another subject, another topic.

Currently when you want to add a component to the library, BikeCAD ask you for a name and on a click add it to the library. Ok. But really often I want to replace the previously wrong component I add, or I want to remember the way I named the other components to have consistent naming.
So my request is : Could it be possible to open a save dialog when you click on the "add to library" button ? In fact the exact same dialog that BikeCAD use to save templates will be perfect !

Thanks,

Make easier templates usage

BikeCAD Feature Request

Hi Brent,

I have two suggestions to make easier the usage of the templates.

The first one is really easy : Could you sort the templates by names in the menu ! plz :)

The second one is less easy but could be really useful : create multi-templates. The idea is to have a multi-template which open two to more other templates.
I often use the same Dimension template with the same Display template, and more...

Thanks a lot !

The current maximum is 12 speed which does not properly model the 13 speed Ekar cassette.

Is there already an option for external butted seat tubes? I could't find it so far.

Might be a nice feature, as it affects the miter templates from SS and TT.
