BikeCAD Pro version 17.0 was released June 11, 2021. Version 17.0 includes the following enhancements:
- Export to FreeCAD option allows for frames and wheels to be imported into the 3D environment of FreeCAD.
- The rider can be pictured with a variety of different helmet styles.
- Rear end geometry can be specified by distance from rear axle to back edge of seat tube.
- More built in drawings for various rear dropouts.
- Additional eBike motors.
- Added top view of aerobars.
- Added more yokes.
- Additional brand logos.
- New Bulgarian translation.
BikeCAD Pro version 17.1 was released July 4, 2021. Version 17.1 includes the following enhancements:
- Added Paragon Machine Works DS0005BD (DS1005BD, DS1006BD) dropout
- Added option to display dimensions horizontally.
- Added tire height dimension.
- Added dropper post stroke dimensions.
- Additional brand logos.
BikeCAD Pro version 17.5 was released October 28, 2021. Version 17.5 includes the following enhancements:
- New option to control rear end geometry by both chain stay length and rear axle to seat tube at the same time.
- Use the Fit advisor to calculate values for Front center, Head tube length, Handlebar from BB (X and Y), Stack, Reach, and BB to hands.
- Improved Export to FreeCAD option
- Option to include single water bottle boss.
- When exiting program, now have three options: Save and quit, Quit without saving, and Cancel which returns to the program.
- Added additional dropouts
- Added chainring radius dimensions.
- Additional brand logos.
- Improved legibility of tabs in MacOS

Exporting to FreeCad
Hey Brent,
Is there a tutorial available for exporting to FreeCad, and how to open drawings correctly in Freecad?

Opening in FreeCAD
I am planning to put together a video tutorial about this. In the meantime, I'm actually wrapping up version 17.1 which will feature a few minor changes. Now's the time to let me know if you'd like any logos, dropouts or yokes added to the program.
The export to FreeCAD option will produce a PY file which is a Python script. If you open this script in FreeCAD, you'll find a green play button at the top of the FreeCAD screen. Clicking this button will open the design in FreeCAD. If you are running FreeCAD on a PC, there is a good chance you'll need to install the "requests" library. To do that, extract the file macro.py from the zip file: bikecad.ca/macro.zip. Click the green play button to run this in FreeCAD. After running the macro.py script, you'll need to restart FreeCAD before the requests library will take effect.

Where to find the new tire height dimension
Hi - Where can I find the new tire height dimension?
Tire height
Tire height is found in the Wheels tab of the Dimensions dialog box. Tire height is the distance between the outer edge of the tire defined by the tire diameter and the inner edge of the tire defined by the bead seat diameter (BSD). This was added to version 17.1.
Closing the app accidentally
Brent, love the program, but please please let the cancel button stop the ending of the program. There's been so many time lately where I click X by habit and then click "cancel" on the save reminder and the app closes. Unless I'm an idiot, I haven't had it successfully return to the program
Accidentally closing app
I've just implemented this change for the next update of BikeCAD Pro. As you can see below, when you exit the program, you'll be able to Save your design and quit, or you can select the Exit without saving button. Meanwhile, the Cancel button will now cancel the decision to exit and return you to the program.
opening templates from verion 15 in version 17
Hi Brent, great updates with 17, but I don't seem to be able to open rider templates and my dimension templates.
Is there a way for me to do that, or do I need to create new ones and save them in the new version?

Copying template files from one version to the next
Your template files from version 15 are stored in the folder BikeCAD_15.0_configuration. These are not automatically accessed by version 17 which has its own folder for configuration files. For instructions on copying these files over, see: bikecad.ca/updating_bikecad_pro. If that process seems too complicated, there's an alternative approach described at: bikecad.ca/updating_bikecad_pro_simply.

17.5 will not open on Mac 10.7.5
Hi Brent
Just catching up after a while of not building/using BikeCAD, i've downloaded the update but it will not open. I'm running OS 10.7.5, 13.0 ran fine and the Java version of 17.5 will open. Any tips or should i be using the Java version?

Running BikeCAD on MacOS 10.7.5
In theory, the latest version of BikeCAD should be able to run on 10.7.5. However, 10.7.5 was released in 2012, so it is a very old operating system and I am not shocked to learn that you're having issues. I am glad that you are able to run the version that requires Java. As long as that works for you, that's the one I would recommend. It has all the same functionality as the code signed version that doesn't require Java.
